Microsoft Releases SQL Server 2008 SP2

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is now available for download. These packages may be used to upgrade any edition of SQL Server 2008. We remain committed to providing our customers with essential changes via Service packs. Service Pack 2 contains updates for SQL Server Utility, Data-Tier Application (DAC), as well as integration capability for Microsoft Reporting Services with the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Technologies. Service Pack 2 introduces support for a maximum of 15,000 partitions in a database, and includes SQL Server 2008 SP1 Cumulative Update 1 to 8. While keeping product changes contained, we have made significant investments to ease deployment and management of Service Packs. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 is not a prerequisite for installing SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2.

Marlon Ribunal's Note On SQL Server 
It would nice if somebody who published information about SP2 would also mention that it does not apply to users who have installed SQL Server 2008 R2.
I could be wrong, but even Microsoft was not enough in the game to call the SP2 release – “SQL Server 2008 SP2 (does not apply to SQL Server 2008 R2 installations.)
I spent 1/2 an hour researching to come to this conclusion, and that was based on a vague reference in the release notes.
Either Microsoft is run by idiots, or I am wrong. I do mind being seen as an idiot, we all are from time-to-time.
I would like to hear why I am wrong. That is, if I am.
SQL Server 2008 is NOT SQL Server 2008 R2. Service Packs are/will be released separately for each version.
Thank you for the clarification. Microsoft update had the SQL Server 2008 SP2 listed as an optional update on a server that only has R2 installed. I could be that there is an express version that is the 2008 version.
