SQL Saturday #44 – First In California!
CALL For Speakers
The SQL Saturday event in Southern California is finally here! Call for Speakers is officially open. According to the official record, this is the first ever SQL Saturday event in California and the first one set up since the transfer of SQLSaturday to PASS. I am just happy to be part of this event for the values I get from attending and organizing and for its place in history (PASS’ history, at least).
If you plan to attend, please register here. Speakers, please register your sessions here. Sponsors and good-hearted people who are willing to help us fund the event, please check this out. If you’re from out of state but expecting to be around the SoCal area on April 24, 2010, please check out if you can wait-list. Please use hashtag #sqlsat44 for any related tweets.
SQLSaturday#44 is a free one day training event for SQL Server professionals and those interested in SQL Server. The event will be held April 24, 2010 at 15744 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach, CA 92647-3197. Registration and the call for speakers is currently open. For more information please visit SQLSaturday.com or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Although this event might be smaller, attendance-wise, than we would like it to be, this will jumpstart a series of SQL Saturday events around the Southern California Region. We plan to make this event a regular affair in this region. Of course none of this will ever be possible without the support of the community and sponsors.
Give The Sponsors Some Love
In connection with this, I encourage those who have organized SQL Saturday events to advocate for the sponsors that helped them make those events happen. We can do this advocacy through our blogs and social network connections. I suggest that we post expressions of gratitude for the sponsors. But that should not stop there. All the other organizers, regardless if they are part of that particular event or not – meaning all the SQL Saturday organizers – should link back to the original post as in a meme (or chain post). The post is not necessarily a full blog. A simple shout out should be OK. This should encourage other third-parties to sponsor our community events.
For example, after our SQL Saturday #44 event, I will blog about the event and express my thanks for the sponsors. Others should pick it up and link to my post and write some shout outs to our sponsors (with product or company links, of course). I will do the same for other events’ sponsors. LET US HELP THOSE WHO HELP US. Let me know what you think or how to make this idea better.
