Oracle 10g Resource Manager: the basics

April 22, 2008

<this is not your “resource governor”>

These are the 3 main components in Database Resource Manager (started in 8i which, according to wiki’s timeline, came out in 1999):

1. Consumer Group

2. Resource Plan

3. Resource Plan Directives

We will walk through these concepts on my article. And I do not know yet how they relate to the fundamental concepts of the SQL Server 2008 Resource Governor:

1. Resource pools

2. Workload groups

3. Classification

Article to be posted soon…come back later…

While waiting, please visit http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb934084(SQL.100).aspx for concepts on SQL Server 2008 Resource Governor.
